Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree (Pano), Joshua Tree National Park, California, 2015

Captured on infrared film during an early morning shoot, this image sat untouched for years because Brothers felt it lacked drama. There were no clouds, a signature element in much of his work.

Brothers’ original inspiration for experimenting with infrared film came from the album cover of The Unforgettable Fire by U2, shot by photographer Anton Corbijn. That influence sparked a fascination with the surreal glow and deep contrast infrared creates, especially in desert landscapes.

Years later, while searching through negatives, Brothers found this image again. What once seemed incomplete now revealed its magic: a stark black sky and Joshua Tree fronds glowing like stars, halos shimmering from UV light. After sharing a proof on Instagram to overwhelming positive feedback, the Joshua trees were finally printed.
