Holbrook Overlook, Canyonlands National Park, Utah, 2008
“I was on my first trip to Canyonlands, on an extremely overcast and sleety, snowy day, when I noticed the overlook from a distance while driving towards the campground. I decided to hike out to it, taking only my Fuji panoramic camera, loaded with Rollei R3 film, but not my tripod, because of the weather. It was about a mile and a half to get out to that cliff face.”
“Once I got out there, I was like, walking along the cliff face, trying to find the best spot. Ten minutes later, I found the right spot, and no sooner had I stood on it than the sun peeked out, right down onto that rim, right down on that white rim. I was then lucky enough to have the sun light up the canyon for about two or three minutes. This is one of my first photographs taken with my first panoramic camera, and the first panoramic print I ever sold.”
