Elizabethtown Car

Elizabethtown Car (Square), Elizabethtown, New Mexico, 2020

This image of an abandoned car in Elizabethtown, a near-forgotten ghost town along New Mexico’s Enchanted Circle, is a study in infrared imagery. Originally overshadowed by a similar composition titled End of the Road, this version gained attention when a gallery owner insisted it be shown. Cropped square for balance—and inspired by the aesthetics of classic record album covers—the square format not only removes imperfections in the original negative but amplifies the drama of
the scene.

For Cody Brothers, record album art was an early influence, shaping a lifelong fascination with bold imagery and graphic storytelling. This photograph embodies that spirit: a forgotten car, a ghost-town backdrop, and an infrared glow transforming decay into something timeless and iconic.
