Burnt Trees, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, 2014
This panoramic photograph was taken in Yellowstone National Park in 2014, in a section of forest scarred by wildfire. Brothers spent a week exploring the park, drawn to this remote, burned landscape near the lake—a place few visitors ventured. He later observed, “I loved it because no one was there. No tour buses, no crowds—just silence and the remnants of fire.”
Shot with a Linhof Technorama camera and a 72mm lens on Efke infrared film, the image transforms charred trunks into stark silhouettes against glowing grasses and moss that appear like snow. The film’s soft, grainy quality enhances the surreal mood, documenting both devastation and renewal. Cody Brothers reflected, “The burnt trees against that sky, the new growth glowing like snow—it’s a study in contrast, a story of resilience.”
