“This photograph from the Badlands captures a massive boulder along an old oil field road near Chaco Canyon, off State Highway 550—a place I have visited since childhood. My grandfather worked in the oil business in the area. He would take me out to these spots where I would run around in the rocks. I still go out to a lot of them, based on him taking me down those roads.”
“Recently I was on my way up to the Bisti Badlands, where I’m doing a series at for a book that I want to put together based on that area. The massive boulder has always caught my eye and the rolling clouds on this specific day perfectly accented the shape of it. The halo of the clouds around the boulder makes it look like it’s rolling. It was the shot I had been looking for.”
